KCHUNG is all-volunteer run. There is a coordinating committee that meets once a month (usually the first wednesday of the month at 7pm on zoom, check the events calendar to confirm). These meetings are open to anyone interested. Through practice, several roles have emerged (self-identified):

the general manager oversees the basic operations of the station. responsibilities include:

  • introducing newcomers to kchung
  • coordinating staff meetings
  • managing email listservs and sublist
  • organizing station manager trainings
  • working with Scheduling, Engineering & the Station Manager Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the station
  • following up with people who miss their shows / don't find subs ("schedule patrol")

The minister of eternal opacity

  • organizes staff meetings, human directory of resources and projects, contact if you don't know who to contact for something.

The Volunteer Coordinator

space manager

  • Facilitates a monthly cleaning service
  • Coordinates cleaning and decluttering
  • Designates chores for volunteers to help maintain the space
  • Point person for art installations, murals, etc
  • Keeps media organized
  • Ensures safety precautions such as hallway lighting, fire extinguishers, fire escape etc
  • Helps keep the feeling of the space inviting and inspiring
  • Contact if you want to help de-cluttering, have a truck or van to haul away furniture or pick up new (to us) furniture, donate furnishings or decorations, kitchen utensils, sundries etc.

The PR coordinator

The events coordinator

  • sends out kchung's newsletter to all kchung lists and anyone who has subscribed via the website. currently bi-monthly.
  • this role is open to contributions from any volunteers interested in helping out.

The Station Manager Manager

  • provides support to the station managers, trains, coordinates with other working groups, communicates changes to station practices and policies, maintains the station managers’ manual, sends out tips and outlines “best practices” for station managers.

Studio Checker

  • check all inputs and levels in the studio, make sure all settings are correct and nothing is broken, and make a report to the #engineering slack channel with any updates. can be done as part of starting or ending a broadcast. training / a checklist of what to look for can be made available, no experience necessary, and no need to fix things, necessarily - just reporting things is very helpful.
  • andy is currently doing this!

Most internal communication happens via slack. if you would like to join KCHUNG's slack, email any of the above or [email protected]. anyone who is currently on KCHUNG's slack should be able to invite you.
